Organic wet food and organic dry food, insect-based food, vegan food, snacks, toppers and supplements from defu, HerzensHund, Bellfor, Marsavet and Hundelust, plus the handmade treats from Lugano. Selected varieties for sensitive dogs, for allergy sufferers and for every day. Everything ships from Switzerland, with no customs and no waiting at the border, usually within 2 to 3 working days.
Wet or dry?
Both have their place. Wet food contains a lot of moisture and most dogs take to it straight away; dry food goes further, is easy to measure out and also works as a reward on the go. Many owners combine the two: dry in the morning, wet in the evening, or dry food with a spoonful of wet food or a food topper on top. The one thing that matters is that your dog gets a slow transition, over five to seven days with a rising share of the new food.
The brands in this collection
defu makes organic wet food with chicken, beef, duck or turkey in the "Sensitive" and "Sensitive grain-free" lines, plus organic dry food for adult and small dogs. HerzensHund cooks organic menus with organic vegetables in 130, 400 and 800 gram tins, plus horse with amaranth and venison with quinoa, both gluten-free, for dogs that react to common meats. Bellfor builds its dry food on insect protein, a protein source that is also an option for dogs with intolerances to common meats, with a junior variety for young dogs. Marsavet offers vegan wet and dry food with microbial protein, as well as powder and drops as supplements. Hundelust supplies snacks such as organic chicken necks from Switzerland, beef and turkey sticks and strips of game, plus organic potato flakes and rice pops as a side.
For sensitive dogs and allergy sufferers
If the skin itches, the stool is soft or the dog keeps refusing its food, a food with a single protein source and no grain is worth trying. There are several here: the grain-free defu varieties, HerzensHund horse and venison, Bellfor with insects, or the vegan Marsavet food. The most reliable way to find out which ingredient your dog cannot tolerate is an elimination diet agreed with your vet; we are happy to advise on the selection, but we do not replace a diagnosis.
How much food does my dog need?
The manufacturer's feeding recommendation is on the packaging and, for most varieties, on the product page, graded by the dog's weight. It is a guideline: a young, active dog needs more, an older or neutered one less. Every few weeks, check the waist from above and the ribs with your hand, and adjust the amount before the scales do.
Shipping and stocking up
The food ships from a Swiss warehouse and usually reaches you within 2 to 3 working days. Shipping costs depend on weight and are shown in the cart before you buy; the treats from Lugano are baked fresh after ordering and arrive separately. Many varieties come in packs of three or four, which saves on shipping per kilo. More on the subject in our guide (in German): food and nutrition.
