What makes MicroBell Snack special?

The vegan MicroBell dog snacks contain microbial protein, produced through an innovative fermentation process. The result is a protein that is bio-identical to animal protein, yet entirely free from animal suffering. MicroBell sets new standards in modern pet nutrition and provides your dog with high-quality protein.

Because it uses microbial protein, the Marsavet MicroBell Snack is hypoallergenic and therefore particularly well tolerated by dogs with sensitive digestion or food intolerances. Thanks to a recipe without gluten and without common allergens such as wheat or soy, the treats are gentle on the stomach and a safe alternative to conventional dog treats.

What is microbial protein?

Microbial protein is among the most sustainable protein sources in the world. It contains all the essential amino acids dogs need, including glutamic acid, which plays an important role in nutrition. The protein is easy to digest and highly bioavailable, which means your dog can take up the protein efficiently without putting unnecessary strain on the digestive tract.

The protein is produced through a special fermentation process in which methane serves as the only carbon and energy source. This makes agricultural raw materials such as soy or wheat unnecessary, and seasonal fluctuations play no role either.

The environmental benefits are wide-ranging: no additional land use, no pesticides or fertilisers, up to 90% less water consumption compared with soy production and a considerably lower environmental impact overall. The protein is also free from mycotoxins and antibiotic residues, which ensures clean and consistently high quality.

Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath), the basis of our protein

The microbial protein used in the Marsavet MicroBell dog treats is produced by fermentation with the naturally occurring bacterium Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath). This methanotrophic organism was first discovered in hot springs near Bath in England and is able to use methane as its only carbon and energy source. This makes it possible to produce a particularly sustainable and high-quality protein that is completely independent of agricultural raw materials.

The amino acid profile of the protein obtained from Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath) is exceptional: it contains all the essential amino acids dogs need for a balanced diet. It is also highly digestible and bioavailable, which means the nutrients can be absorbed well by the body.

A recent study by Oba et al. (2023) confirms these properties. In a comparative study, the standardised amino acid digestibility of microbial protein (FeedKind) was compared with classic protein sources such as chicken meal, corn gluten, pea protein and insect protein. The results show that microbial protein has consistently high digestibility (>85%), particularly for lysine (92%) and tryptophan (97%). Unlike many other conventional protein sources, microbial protein (FeedKind) used as the only protein source in the diet of adult dogs and cats can fully cover the requirement for the limiting amino acids.

Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath), and the protein produced from it by fermentation, is therefore not only environmentally valuable but also nutritionally high-quality, a genuine alternative to meat, soy or insect protein for sustainable and hypoallergenic dog snacks.
